Established in 1840, Grove Church is one of the largest African American churches in Portsmouth, Virginia. Grove is committed to “meeting the needs of people” in the community and abroad. We accomplish this through our various ministries, outreach programs and initiatives that include a healthcare partnership, homebuyer’s program, food bank and everything in between. Grove has long established community partnerships with Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless, where every year we open our doors to host a winter shelter for individuals who are homeless, providing them with food, clothing, respite and connecting them with resources. We are the nation's only faith-based, flagship sponsor of the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk and we support a number of youth-related programs and events throughout the year, including our end-of-the-summer Forward 2 School event and Worth the Wait Youth Conference.
