The federal week in review:
1. Trump fires all Ambassadors and Special Envoys, ordering them out by inauguration day.
2. House brings back the Holman rule allowing them to reduce an individual civil service, SES positions, or political appointee's salary to $1, effectively firing them by amendment to any piece of legislation. We now know why they wanted names and positions of people in Energy and State.
3. Senate schedules 6 simultaneous hearings on cabinet nominees and triple-books those hearings with Trump's first press conference in months and an ACA budget vote, effectively preventing any concentrated coverage or protest.
4. House GOP expressly forbids the Congressional Budget Office from reporting or tracking ANY costs related to the repeal of the ACA.
5. Trump continues to throw the intelligence community under the bus to protect Putin, despite the growing mountain of evidence that the Russians deliberately interfered in our election.
6. Trump breaks a central campaign promise to make Mexico pay for the wall by asking Congress (in other words, us, the taxpayers) to pay for it.
7. Trump threatens Toyota over a new plant that was never coming to the US nor will take jobs out of the US.
8. House passes the REINS act, giving them veto power over any rules enacted by any federal agency or department--for example, FDA or EPA bans a drug or pesticide, Congress can overrule based on lobbyists not science. Don't like that endangered species designation, Congress kills it.
We - progressive, liberal, libertarian and conservative - need to all wake up to what is actually happening to our beloved country.
He's screwed over carpenters and other workers in his orbit for decades. Anyone who voted for him either doesn't care, or didn't do their homework.
It would be more surprising if they came out and said they had been paid in full.
Surprised that after 3,500 lawsuits for people not getting paid, and 6 bankruptcy's he could get anybody to work for him. The banks in the US sure wouldn't. That's why he had to get his money from Russia. Deadbeat Don.
Of course they are and they will have to keep waiting. My husband's company was stiffed when working on some of the Trump projects here in South Florida. NOTHING wrong with his work, properly permitted, passed final inspections but was not paid 100%.
par for the course from The Donald, Why would these contractors expect anything different? He's been stiffing these types of companies for years!
Does anyone really think Trump will treat the American people better than he treats his contractors? I think not.
Yep. We're going to have a President who thinks screwing people over and not paying for stuff makes him "smart." You can consider any successful thief to be "smart;" that doesn't mean "put them in charge."
"He'll 'run this country like he runs his business'? God help us." - Mike Bloomberg
Where are all the Trolls?
*** Cue Crickets***
They've got nothing to say about their King leaving all these companies holding the bag? Of course not. This man is an embarrassment. I feel awful for the American families that are sure to be impacted by this jerk not paying. AGAIN.
This. This is what really makes my blood boil. (besides the obvious difference in political opinion) He's all over Twitter bragging about convincing larger corporations to keep jobs in this county - 1,000 jobs here, 100 jobs there. Now what about these jobs? You know what happens to businesses like this when large bills don't get paid? THEY GO OUT OF BUSINESS! So how many jobs is that? Not to mention you've put the small to medium business owner up shits creek. They have to start over. Even if you figure the businesses owed money are in a position to borrow working capital to stay afloat, they have to pay interest on that money. So hopefully they had great margins when quoting the original job or they are going to loose money or breakeven. If he really was the great business man he seems to keep telling us, he would have made sure every fucking bill was paid before that ridiculous ribbon cutting ceremony. Don't even get me started that either Trump International or the Federal Government will eventually pay the bill to resolve the lien. Trump is the Federal Government now. Yeah that's not a gigantic conflict. So either Trump pays or the tax payers pay. This is the kind of bad business that keeps those struggling, disenfranchised working 'man' still struggling and disenfranchised.
"One company, Joseph J. Magnolia Inc., filed a $2.98 million mechanic's lien in December. According to the filing, the firm worked on the hotel from September 2014 to December 2016 and "completed all plumbing, mechanical and HVAC work, along with site sewer, water, storm and water services."
AES Electrical Inc., based in Laurel, Md., says it's owed $2.075 million for its work on the hotel for the same period of time as Magnolia. ... ."
Isn't this exactly what he said he'd do with our economy? Just write off debts and not pay them? The only thing scarier than how ruthless this guy is, is how forthcoming he is about it...and maybe scarier still is how people seem to think that's admirable.
Wait, they signed a contract with Trump and expected to be paid??? Wow, do some research, he'll drag his feet and pay what he wants after his lawyers threaten you.
J. Wellington Trumpy here. I'll gladly pay you next Tuesday for a big, beautiful hotel today!
More Trump criticism and satire at my profile.
I wanted to ask the question of: why would any contractor work for him with his track record of stiffing people? Then I had moment and thought it's the same question I asked when he got elected. Why would anyone would vote for him knowing what type of person he is? And I have no answer for both questions.
This is paramount to his "success as a businessman" . this same occurrence is almost daily in his business history. I personally have a good number of friends in varying professions whom he owes large sums of money for services provided. I guess that is how you become a "successful businessman " these days. Our president ladies and gentlemen.
President elect or not, he should pay his bills. The Saudi princes can stay there if they want. The rest of us should stay as far away as possible until he honors his obligations, all of them.
This is the 100th report of contractors and people not being paid by His Majesty, yet somehow he is going to be our president. If they can't trust this man, why should we?
He must be pissed they're still expecting their money.
He probably will say the contractors did not do a good enough job so they don't deserve payment, just like he did with one of his golf courses
This is what he does. Over and over and over again. He doesn't pay workers saying they didn't do a good job or some other lie just to keep money in his pocket. He's a disgraceful and disgusting human being.
President-Elect Cheeto Mussolini doesn't pay his contractors - this has been common knowledge for a while now. His Russian-mail-order-bride subscription is paid in full, though.
He should not be sworn-in until we see his financial statements and tax information as well as his businesses put in a blind trust. It's beyond me why the American people are not demanding this. It's so simple, if he is clean from Russia's ties and from conflict of interest, then this should be a piece of cake. But we know he's not, and more the reason to be alarmed.
What contractor in their right mind would ever do business with a Trump company?
Whether you like his politics or not, doing business with him and expecting to get paid is insane.
Right, he is such a great businessman! Actually he is great at screwing people in multiple business transactions and great at lying about it all. He also took advantage of free press to promote his new venture and at the same time lying directly to us about his skills at creating jobs. No doubt some of these businesses will not survive if they do not receive the money they are due. I cannot believe he is taking Obama's place in the WH - a very sad day indeed.
He knows how to get other people to foot the bill to do things... guess this is how he will build that wall. Stiff the contractors.
Here we go again with Trump not paying his contractors. That is how is does business and makes money off of driving small businesses into the ground. He threatens and bullies people and refuses to pay them because he has more money, layers and power than the little guys that he hires. How are these business practices going to help run our country?! Why would anyone want someone with such known bad business ethics to run our country? Is this really what we have become?
Good luck with that... I'm truly surprised any contractor would not get payment up front or just choose not to work with him after Trumps history.
He has always screwed people over when doing business. He doesn't pay what has been contracted and owed and then they have to file liens and suits to get paid and he fights them so that they have to settle for less. It's disgusting. Doing business with Trump is risky. This doesn't make for a great business man. IT MAKES FOR A CROOK. So congratulations America, we have a crook running our country...good luck with that!!
